One Sweet Ride (Play by Play #6)(78)
Author: Jaci Burton

She took a deep breath. “Gray.”

“I love you, Evelyn. I might have handled some things badly, and for that I’m sorry. I know you’re capable of juggling the entire world on your shoulders, but you don’t have to do it alone. Do it with me. Marry me.”

She couldn’t hold back the tears. “Gray. I love you, too, and I let my own fears get in the way of telling you that. And for that I’m the one who’s sorry. You were only trying to help me, to clear the way for me to be able to do my job, and instead of being grateful, I jumped all over you and walked away from you. Please forgive me for that because I’ve been so miserable without you.”

She walked into his arms and his lips came down on hers. She relished his anguished groan of need as he kissed her. Suddenly, everything that had been wrong was suddenly right again, and her world was dizzy because of it. She held on to him like she never wanted to let go of him again.

She would never let go of him again.

When she broke the kiss, she swept her fingers over his cheekbones, his lips, and his strong jaw. “You bought this house?”

“I put a deposit down on it. If you don’t like it, we’ll keep looking. But I saw the trees and thought several of them were strong enough for a tire swing.”

“Oh. God. Yes. I love this house, Gray. It’s perfect for you and me and our children.” She brushed her lips across his, unable to believe he remembered the tire swing. “But what about your house in Daytona? Please don’t sell it.”

“Congress recesses, Evelyn. I’m not selling the house in Daytona. I thought we might also want a town house in New York. You liked it there, too.”

She took a deep breath and let it out. “You’re too good to me.”

“I don’t know about that. You’ve been pretty good to me, too. I’d say we’re good for each other.”

He let the Realtor know he’d sign the paperwork on the house tomorrow, then he and Evelyn left.

“I know this isn’t going to be easy,” he said. “We have very diverse careers and there are going to be times we won’t see each other. But people who love each other make time for each other. And I have days off after each race. And I promise you, when I’m not racing cars I’ll be racing home to you. And to our children.”

She scooted closer to him, to lean against him. “I want to marry you and have babies with you as soon as humanly possible.”

He grinned. “I can arrange that.”

“I know you can.”

The driver let them out at Evelyn’s apartment. They made their way inside, and once he closed the door, Gray pushed Evelyn against it. “I think we should consummate our engagement.”

“Definitely.” She started to kiss him. “Are you . . . uh . . . up for that?”

He took her hand and laid it over him, where he was already hard. “Babe, I’m definitely up for it. I’ve been aching for you.”

“Then let’s get you comfortable and get me naked so we can get you inside me in a hurry.”

She led him over to the oversized chair he’d been sitting in earlier. He eased into it and she leaned over him to undo his belt buckle. The searing look of desire he gave her turned her liquid. She dragged her fingernails over the denim of his jeans, down his erection as she teased him.

“Hurry,” he rasped, lifting against her hand as she dragged the zipper down, then eased his jeans open and freed his cock. He was hot and heavy in her hands and she stroked him, her ni**les tingling as he groaned.

She kicked off her shoes and unzipped her skirt, letting it fall to the floor, then very deftly undid each button on her blouse, watching his gaze go dark as she pulled it off to reveal her pink bra and matching panties.

“You are so goddamn sexy, Evelyn,” he said, his fingers gripping the sides of the chair.

She reached behind her and undid the bra, then shimmied out of her panties and straddled him, her body pulsing with need. He cupped her br**sts as she took his mouth in a searing kiss that left her breathless and throbbing.

She gripped his c**k and eased down over him, sliding him into her. With each inch, she was reminded of how well they fit together, and when he was buried inside her, she stilled, meeting his gaze.

“I love you,” she whispered, then began to rock against him while his shaft swelled inside her, making her quiver.

He pulled the clip from her hair and tangled his fingers in the strands. “I love you, too.” He drew her forward and kissed her, a kiss that she felt all the way to her toes, so filled with passion and emotion that she knew without a doubt she would love this man until the day she died.

He took her hands in his and then arched up into her, rolling his hips toward her.

She met his thrust by grinding against him, her body filled with him, her heart filled with his love, deepening their connection until she was so close she was crying out with the need to come.

“I’m there, Gray. Come with me.”

“I’ll go when you go. I’m going to come in you, Evelyn.”

Just hearing the words set her off, and she splintered like a burst of fireworks, her orgasm exploding from within. She arched her back and dug down deep against him while he powered up into her and released with a shout, holding on to her hips.

It was intense and a moment she wouldn’t soon forget as Gray pulled her toward him for a blistering kiss that sealed the two of them as one. And when they both came down from that epic high, he held her, stroked her back, and whispered his love again to her.

It was perfect, and it would be forever.

“I think you’re late for work,” he murmured some time later.

“I think I’m probably hurting your ribs,” she said, not giving a shit about work right now.

“My ribs went numb like an hour ago.”

She laughed and climbed off, then helped him up. They went into the bathroom to clean up, then climbed into bed together.

“Seriously, Evelyn, shouldn’t you be working?”

“Yes. But I’m taking the afternoon off.”

“Okay.” He pulled her next to him and they settled like that.

“I need to get you a ring. We’ll have to go shopping. My mother will be appalled if we announce our engagement and you don’t have a ring.”

“Mmm,” was all she said as she drew imaginary circles over his chest.
